A visit to Golconda Fort
Main Entrance Darbar Hall G olconda Fort is a historic fortress and a ruined city located in the western outskirts of Hyderabad which spreads across an area of approximately 11 Kms. Golconda is famed for its diamond mines which yielded gems like the Kohinoor, Blue Hope, and Daria-e-Noor. Golconda was initially called Mankal and was established by the Kakatiyas (South Indian Dynasty) in 1143. It is said that a shepherd kid discovered an idol of a deity at the location when Kakatiyas were constructing the fort and that is how it came to be called as Golla Konda or Shepherd’s Hill.
